National Roaming: ntel 4G Subscribers Can Now Have Access to 3G and 2G Services via 9Mobile

Nigeria’s most revolutionary 4G/LTE-Advanced network provider —ntel, has announced a national roaming field trial with 9mobile. This will give ntel subscribers an access to 3G and 2G services via 9Mobile network, which is one of the first-rate network in Nigeria, due to their undoubtedly better coverage.

The operators have received regulatory approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to commence a national roaming trial over a two-month period.

According to ntel, the agreement will enable ntel’s customers to make calls on 9mobile’s network using any 2G or 3G handset within the specified trial zone.

Commenting on the commencement of the national roaming trial, Ernest Akinlola, ntel’s CEO said “This agreement is a significant step in the right direction for us as a company and the telecommunications eco system as a whole.” A full national roaming agreement with 9Mobile would provide our growing customer base with a seamless service over 4G/LTE superfast data and voice clarity as well as ubiquitous 3G and 2G coverage nationwide. Both operators are pioneers in innovation and we are pleased to be charting a new path for the industry.”

The national roaming test is expected to commence on both networks from December 1, 2017.

Note that ntel runs an advanced mobile 4G/LTE network on the 900/1800 Mhz frequency bands which offers subscribers crystal clear Voice over LTE and extraordinarily high internet access speed (up to 230Mbps).
The company made its first on-net test data call in Lagos on January 18, 2016, and followed this up with the first on-net Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) call in Lagos on February 25, 2016, while full commercial operations commenced on April 8, 2016. USB Debugging Mode grants you a level of access to your device. What kind of access, you may ask. This level of access that USB Debugging Mode grants is important when you need system-level clearance, such as when coding a new app. This mode, also called Developer Mode, allows newly programmed apps to be copied via USB to the device for testing. Depending on the OS version and installed utilities, the mode must be turned on to let developers read internal logs.

But it does more than that. There are a few non-development-related benefits of this new level of access that can give you much more freedom of control over your device. For example, with the Android SDK, you gain direct access to your phone through your computer and that allows you to do things or run terminal commands with ADB. These terminal commands can help you restore a bricked phone. So this mode is a useful tool for any adventurous Android owner.

This is a simple tutorial for you to enable "USB Debugging" mode on any Android Smartphone, the method is compatible with old and new Samsung tablet/smartphones, Infinix, Gionee and Tecno smartphones that are running on Android 5.0, 5.0.1 Lollipop, Android 6.0 or 6.0.1 Marshmallow, Android 7.0, 7.1.1, 7.1.2 Nougat and the latest OS, Android 8.0 Oreo.

To Enable USB Debugging On Any Device Running On Android Lollipop 5.0 or Higher
  1. Open your app menu and tap on "Settings".
  2. From app drawer, find “Developer options” via scrolling below on the settings menu.
  3. If you didn’t found, then find and tap on “About device”.
  4. When you are in the above page tap on the "Build number" more than 7 times to enable the "Developer Options". 
  5. Once enabled go back to the main Settings Menu and you will be able to see the "Developer options" near to "About device". 
  6.  Now click on "Developer options" and you will be able to see a similar page like the one given below.
  7. From the above page you can either enable or disable the "USB Debugging" by just checking or unchecking the white square box.
  8. You will get a warning alert text “Allow USB Debugging”. Tap “Enable” at the popup to confirm.
That's it guys, if you have carefully followed the above steps, you may not have any difficulty in enabling the USB debugging on your Android Smartphone running on Android Lollipop 5.0 or higher.

How to Root Most Popular Samsung Phone or Tablet With CF Auto Root

ROOTING… a world not every user dares venture into. We wouldn’t blame you if you are wary of doing this. It’s intimidating when manufacturers keep telling you tinkering with a phone can void your warranty and/or harm your device. And it’s true – you may be left on your own if something goes wrong and you decided to play around with your phone’s stock software.

With that said, we can also tell you there are plenty of reasons why rooting may be the best thing you can do to enhance your smartphone experience. Rooting is the Android equivalent of jailbreaking, a means of unlocking the operating system so you can install unapproved apps, deleted unwanted bloatware, update the OS, replace the firmware, overclock (or underclock) the processor, customize anything and so on.
 
Disclaimer: Just be sure you do your research well and be careful if you decide to unlock your phone’s full potential by rooting. As mentioned above, these procedures can void your warranty and/or brick your handset. No one but you will be responsible, should it come to that.  

When you consider that each manufacturer adds a few tweaks to the Android code base here and there, that makes for a lot of software variations, which in turn means there needs to be many different root methods to match this variety.

While there may never be a singular root method that works for all devices, developer Chainfire is at least making sure that the most common phones and tablets can be rooted using the same exploit. His CF Auto Root utility now works for over 300 devices on their latest firmware versions, which is about as ubiquitous as it can get. To top it off, the utility is incredibly easy to use, so I'll show you how to root most popular Samsung Android devices below.

This tutorial will focus on how to root your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 or SM-N9005 running on Android Lollipop 5.0 firmware, but CF Auto Root downloading link will be provided for other Most popular Samsung Android Devices. Once you have found your phone compatible CF Auto Root software there, download it and  follow the same procedure to root your Samsung Android Device.

It should be noted that rooting your device will likely void your manufacturers warranty, but you can always unroot it to reinstate warranty. Shelaf.com will not be liable for any damage caused as a result of executing the below given steps.

Also note that you will need a Windows PC to use this method on a Samsung device.

Before proceeding, make sure you back up all important data on a separate storage drive, including contacts, photos etc. Also the phone battery should be charged to a min of 80%.

Steps To Root Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 and SM-N9005 running on Android Lollipop 5.0 firmware
1. Download the files for rooting Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 or SM-N9005from the below given links;
2.  Once downloaded, extract it to find similar files as showing in the below screenshot;

3. Now, you need to enable "USB debugging mode" on your Samsung phone or tablet  from Settings->Developer Options->USB Debugging. Alternately, you can try the detailed tutorial given below for enabling USB debugging mode on your device.
How to Enable USB Debugging on Any Device Running On Android 5.0 Lollipop or Higher

4. Once it is done you have to enter your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 or SM-N9005 into "Download Mode", to enter switch off your device and press and hold "Volume Down+Home+Power buttons at the same time until you get the warning screen like the one given below.
Now please click "Volume Up" button to confirm and you will enter into the "Download Mode". The below screenshot shows you the final download mode screen.
5. Next, head to the folder on your PC where you extracted the contents of the CF Auto Root ZIP. From here, right-click the Odin3-v3.X.X.exe file, then choose "Run as administrator".

6. Connect your Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 or SM-N9005 to your PC using the USB data cable. An "Added" message from the Odin confirms a successful connection. Now click the "PDA" or "AP" button in the Odin window and select the extracted ".tar.md5" file from your PC desktop.
Please make sure that “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options are only check marked in the Odin.

7. Once confirmed click the "Start" button on the Odin and wait for the rooting procedure to get completed. When it's done your Note 3 will restart and it will attain superuser privileges.
You can confirm whether the procedure was successful or not from the "Pass" message in Odin... Enjoy..

That is all about the rooting your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 and SM-N9005 running on Android Lollipop 5.0 firmware.

For Other Samsung Phone or Tablet, You Need to Download the Right CF Auto Root File for Your Device 
CF Auto Root, which is the tool you'll be using to actually root your device. There are different versions of CF Auto Root for each of the 300+ supported Android devices, so you'll need to be careful and make sure you download the right one.

To make sure you're downloading the right CF Auto Root package, you'll first need to find your Android device's model number. This can be done by heading to the "About Phone" menu in Settings, then looking for the series of letters and numbers listed under the "Model number" entry.

Samsung Galaxy S5 model number and Android version

Once you know your model number, you'll also have to find your Android version number to make sure you're getting the right CF Auto Root package. From the same About phone menu, scroll down a bit further and note the number listed beneath the "Android version" entry.

With that information in hand, head to the CF Auto Root page at the following link, then locate your device's model number in the list. From there, make sure the numbers in the "Android" column match up with the Android version you found earlier. If everything looks to be in order, click the "Download" link on the right to get the proper version of CF Auto Root for your device.
 
If the model number and Android version match, click "Download" to get CF Auto Root.
Once you've downloaded the CF Auto Root package, locate the file on your hard drive and extract the contents of the ZIP. You can extract the files to any folder on your computer, but make sure to remember this folder's location for later.

Go back to the above instruction, "Steps To Root Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 and SM-N9005 running on Android Lollipop 5.0 firmware".  Follow the instruction carefully and your device should be fully rooted.

To verify
Download Root Checker from Play Store to verify your root privileges. After downloading, simply Install Root Checker, run it and you should get a success message after then.

Airtel is Set to Launch 4G LTE Broadband to 3 States in Nigeria This December

The long anticipating Airtel 4G LTE is finally punching the clock, Airtel Nigeria is about to launch their own 4G LTE network after other telecom like MTN, Glo and 9Mobile unveiled theirs last year 2016.

According to an insider who preferred to be anonymous, said Airtel will be rolling out their 4G LTE network this December to 3 states which includes Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt, while other states and cities will stand the chance of enjoying Airtel 4G service later in 2018.

Recall that earlier in November, Airtel NG partnered with Ericson for core network upgrade. Airtel signed a three-year contract with Ericsson to transform its core network in Nigeria thereby enabling faster mobile broadband.

This is a great news to all subscribers, we hope everything goes as planned.

TStv to Start Selling of Their Decoders From Next Week

TStv Decoders would be on sale as from next week, the Management of the much awaited indigenous Satellite TV provider has revealed.


Mr Ernest Essien, the TStv’s Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure in an interview with the to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Essien said the company had concluded arrangement to roll out its commercial decoders from next week after the successful test run of its promo decoders distributed before Nov. 1.

He said that the service provider was committed to making sure that all the intending customers should have their decoders before Christmas.

“We are almost done with our test transmission and we are just putting some finishing touches and hopefully by the grace of God, between now and next week the decoders will be out for sale.

“We are informing Nigerians that they must enjoy their Christmas with their decoders. So before Christmas, the decoders will be everywhere in the market.

“Everything is in place we have done everything we needed to do before coming out and I want to let you know that TStv is still on course.’’

Essien reiterated that the price of TStv decoder would remain at the initial N5,000 with all the packages promised, adding that there would be additional surprise packages for its customers.

He said that the management had decided to keep the packages secret until the decoders were rolled out.

“We will display all the packages accordingly but the one we can assure you now is that the price will not change, it remains N5,000.

“We are trying to see how we can make it simple and easy for every Nigerian to be able to afford it.

“We are keeping our promises on the channels and all the channels including BeIN Sports channels are there with even more other channels that were not included in our bouquet before.

“We have more channels that are coming and the total number of channels will be over 70,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the new satellite pay TV which was inaugurated on Oct. 1 commenced distribution and installation of promo decoders nationwide on Oct. 31.

Some of the beneficiaries of the promo decoder had commended the improvement in the number of channels and quality of the programmes.

MTN Left Out as Airtel, Glo, Others Make Final Five to Purchase 9mobile

It's no longer news that the 9Mobile company opened to a new investor that is willing to invest heavily in the telecoms company in such a way that it will have the required amount of money to offset its $1.2 billion bank loan.

We have already brought to you, the list of the 10 companies that want to purchase 9Mobile telecoms. The South Africa-based multinational mobile telecommunications company ―MTN Group, was not even among the ten companies who expressed interest in acquiring 9Mobile, talkles of making it to the final five companies in the bid for 9mobile.

According to TheCable: The top five bidders who made it to the next stage of the bid are:
1. Airtel
2. Globacom
3. Smile
4. Helios, and
5. Teleology Holdings Limited.

Out of the five, one will be the eventual buyer in a matter of weeks.

In a memo seen by TheCable, Boye Onasanya, CEO 9mobile, said it would have more extensive discussions with the shortlisted parties, as the company gets closer to its final bidder.

“We are now moving on to the next phase, with plans for more extensive discussions and interaction with shortlisted parties, one of whom will emerge as the final bidder in the coming weeks,” Onasanya said.

Earlier 16 companies tendered expressions of interest (EoIs) to Barclays, 9mobile’s financial advisor.
The companies included five telcos: MTN, Airtel, Ntel, Virgin Mobile from the United Kingdom and Vodacom of South Africa.

Some others are BUA Group, Morning Side Capital Partners, Obot Etiebet & Co, Blackstone Private Equity, and Hamilton and George International Limited.

The question is, who will acquire 9Mobile among the 5 bidder?

Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus Expected to Have Dual Front Cameras

I think it is more accurate to say #selfie is the main driving forces making phone cameras an important consideration. Cameras have become a visibly important feature in smartphones these days.

Selfie is probably about to get a lot more conscious. A new generation of Samsung’s Galaxy A-series phones are rumored for a release this January, as reported by Android Police. A user manual was uploaded online to Samsung’s website, which provides minimal details on what we can expect from next year’s new A-series phones.

It appears that the phones’ big highlight feature will be dual front-facing cameras, with Live Focus available for selfies, but there’s no information yet on how many megapixels they are. The manual also confirms that the phones will have an 18:9 aspect ratio with slim bezels, like many other new phones released in the past year. The rear fingerprint sensor also looks like it’s located under the rear camera, for easier access than previous Samsung models like the Note 8.

The naming of the phones is also rumored to change, with this year’s A5 and A7 becoming the A8 and A8 Plus of next year. The manual claims that both phones will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and offer support for Samsung Pay and Bixby. 

Other aspects remain standard, like a USB-C charger port and an earphone jack. We’re likely to know more about the new models within the next two months if Samsung announces them as expected

Everything You Need to Know About 9mobile BlazeOn - Time Based Data Plans

A few weeks back, 9Mobile (formally known as Etisalat) unveiled their own time based data plan, working via an app called Blaze On, powered by Comptel’s FWD solution.

It seems we are getting the information about plan wrongly. 9Mobile time based data plan has 4 different plans, 10mins, 15mins, 30mins & 1 hour timely plan, none of these plans are unlimited and 9Mobile was never declared it as unlimited plan, though they make the data plan not understandable. The message released by 9Mobile is "buy data in minutes, buy data in hours", no further detail about the plan.

If you don't know, I'm confirming it for you now that 9Mobile Blazeon time based plans has fair data usage condition, i.e. A particular amount of data is capped to each plan. See the data limit of each of the plans below:
  • 10min plan of N50 is capped at 230MB
  • 15min plan of N70 is capped at 350MB
  • 30min plan of N120 is capped at 780MB
  • 1hour plan of N200 is capped at 1580MB (1.5GB)
I don't know when our 4 major Telecoms in Nigeria will be tested and proved to us and provide us the genuine unlimited data plan with affordable price, even with time based data plans, they cannot offer us an unlimited data plan.

However, with the fair usage policy attached to 9Mobile time based plans, I think it is still one of the best data plan. Getting 1.5GB for just N200 is too bad?

If the 9Mobile network is good in your locality and you have better things to do with internet data, like downloading, upgrading/updating the system and Smartphones. You will really love this plan when you give it a trial.

For now, the app is available for Android users, but might be rolled out for iOS device very soon. The plan can't be used directly on a PC except through tethering from an Android device.
